Zimbabwe have named four Sargeants in their Quadrangular team to take on South Africa, the United Kingdom and Zambia in July at Mooi River. Also 6 of the 8 players have all played at least one season in the UK. The four Sargeants are the siblings Greg, Paula and Suzanne and also Greg’s wife Sophie (nee Lodder). They are joined by Hamish Michael, Damien Harris and Brad Clark for the men and Jane Howes for the ladies

Sophie was born in the UK and only relocated to Zimbabwe in early 2011 after marrying Greg, who lived in the UK for a number of years. Hamish Michael also lived in the UK for many years, living with Greg and playing alongside him at Arden. Suzanne has played a couple of seasons in the UK over the years and Damien and Brad both played one season in the UK, Brad in 2008 and Damien in 2011.

It is a very different looking team to the one who finished second in the World Cup, with Sophie and Suzanne being the only surviving members. Two players that would have perhaps also retained their places from that successful world cup team, Mikey and Kelly Krynauw have moved away from Zimbabwe to Zambia since 2011 so were no long available for Zimbabwe selection. This team definitely brings with it a lot of experience, Hamish Michael played for the UK at the 2007 World cup when they finished second, a team which Greg Sargeant coached. Suzanne and Paula both played in the World Cup in 2003 for Zimbabwe and all these players have played in numerous internationals over the years.

Zimbabwe came so close in the World Cup in 2011, whether this team can go one better and defeat South Africa at home this year remains to be seen but they will definitely put on some spectacular polocrosse in the attempt.
