Report by Jodi Tiver

30 teams arrived to play on the river sand fields in Northam for the Twin Pines annual tournament. It was great to see that one team from Walkaway made the effort to travel south seeing that the majority of clubs from the Central Zone had been travelling north all year to play at the mid-west tournaments.

With the 1st State Selection tournament to be held the following weekend at Walkaway most people chose to ride 2nd horses and had slightly undermanned teams but the competition was certainly still pretty full on! There was some very physical and fast games played all weekend!

Although rain did threaten most of the weekend with only a sprinkling here and there, it seemed it would hold off right up until the A Grade final! But play still went on of course and with the hot favourites at the beginning of the weekend, Perth swapping on to their 2nd horses with the approval of the opposition South Midlands, that was their undoing and the red and blue went on to win by 11 goals – a result which could have changed the leader board for the Champion A Grade Club for the season.

Also, on behalf of all the members of the Foothills Polocrosse Club and PAWA, we pass on our most sincere condolences to Holly Ludeman for the loss of her lovely old mare Budgie to a heart attack on Saturday afternoon.
