UK Polocrosse stars Greg Sargeant and Sophie Lodder today announced that they are engaged to be married. The couple, who have been dating for several years, were swamped with congratulation messages as the engagement was revealed via Facebook. It is not known when the couple, who both play for Arden Polocrosse Club in Warwickshire, actually intend to get married.

There are rumours that neither will play any polocrosse this year in the UK and there was talk of them following their close friend Hamish Michael to Zimbabwe or maybe heading to Zambia. If they don’t play it is a potentially huge blow to the UK’s World Cup chances, particularly the idea of losing Sophie from the ladies’ squad.

Since returning to Zimbabwe Hamish Michael has made it into the long list for the Zimbabwe World Cup squad and some think that Greg might be tempted to go and try and do the same. Both Hamish and Greg were born in Zimbabwe but lived in the UK for a number of years and got their British citizenships in order to achieve selection for the UK men’s squad.

However, they were both disappointed with being left out of the squad at various stages in 2009; Hamish was not picked for the quadrangular tournament at the start of the year and Greg for the summer test matches against South Africa, and now they might fancy the chance to prove themselves by playing for Zimbabwe in the UK next year. If they do indeed turn up to play they will undoubtedly receive a warm response from the majority of the UK crowd, particularly the Arden faithful.

The whole team at Polocrosse Extreme wishes Sophie and Greg the very best in their married life together!
