Arden Tournament 2008 Report
The Arden tournament followed its usual form. The weather was bright and sunny, the pitches were in very good condition and the party went on till about 6 in the morning. In addition Jason Burbidge and his new band played at the party, much to the delight of the revellers. On the polocrosse side of things the A grade was won by the Highlanders with Pennine in second place (there was also two UK sides playing in the A grade non-competitively in order to allow the final teams to face the Australians to be picked).
With most of the top players involved in the UK sides the real tussles came down in B grade where Arden lost in the final to a strong Crusaders side, with both Beth Peaker and Alex Bull looking on good form as the number ones. The C grade was captured by a Pennine side which featured some of their top young players such as Alex and Claudia Richardson and Bryony Cross, who are more normally found in B grade nowadays. Celyn finished in second place.
D grade was so large that it had to be split into D1 and D2. D1 was won by Centaur with Western Phoenix in the runners up spot. Western Phoenix had some revenge though as they picked up two of the Best Number spots. The victors in D2 were Solent with Kent Target in runners up spot.
In the E grade it was Solent again who triumphed with Western Phoenix in second place after a hard fought final.
It was Arden themselves who picked up the top spots in both the Juniors and the Primary Juniors. Celyn finished second in Juniors , while in the Primary Juniors it was Pennine who were runners up.
